![]() What will be the speed limit on the bridge in construction zones? The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph on the bridge or as posted on approach roadways. When the bridge is down to one lane for construction, what should I do if I’m involved in an accident? When there is a lane closure on the bridge, two tow trucks will be positioned on each end of the bridge. If there is an accident, always follow state law. (See Louisiana Driver's Guide for dealing with an accident - found below.) Police will clear the scene and allow the tow trucks to drive against traffic to remove the vehicle(s) involved and return traffic to its normal flow. If I am involved in an accident, should I pull over into the lane closure to allow for traffic to pass while I wait for police or emergency vehicles to arrive at the scene? What should I do if the lane closure involves a concrete barrier? You should NOT pull into the lane closure unless directed by the police. Pulling in to a lane closure is dangerous and should not be done unless directed by a policeman. State law should be followed for all accidents with regard to clearing the scene. Stop your vehicle immediately if it is clear and safe. Do not leave the scene of the crash without identifying yourself. Have someone warn approaching traffic to prevent further damage. 2. Make a first aid check of all persons involved in the crash. Call the police and ask for an ambulance if needed. If in doubt, assume that an ambulance is needed. 3. Gather the names of all persons in the motor vehicles and people who witnessed the crash. Drivers must give their name, address and vehicle license number and if requested, display their driver’s license to any person involved in the accident. If you damage an unattended vehicle or property, you must notify the police and attempt to locate the owner. Leave your name, address and telephone number on a note where the owner will be sure to see it. 4. Make a quick diagram of where the vehicle occupants were seated and indicate the vehicle’s direction of travel and lane. 5. Notify your insurance company as soon as practical. Give complete information about the accident. See your doctor as soon as possible if you are shaken up. |
