In August 2011, work began to build the new lanes on the bridge in both directions. Steel beams called “stringers” were installed that will support the new lanes. The contractor is expected to pour concrete on the new lanes before the end of 2011.
Late Spring/early Summer 2012, traffic will be switched to two new lanes on the bridge so the old lanes can be removed and the new lanes expanded to three wider lanes in each direction.
The bridge widening is on schedule for completion in 2013. At that time, the bridge will have three 11-foot lanes in each direction with eight-foot outside and two-foot inside shoulders.
