March 2008:
Phase I: Main Support Widening
Continue pier construction by installing steel reinforcing framework and pouring concrete at the existing piers. Structural steel center columns are being positioned in the void space of the piers. First of diagonal struts anchored. See photo gallery for pictures.
Phase II: Railroad Modifications
Three railroad bents are being relocated on the East Bank, while two are being modified on the West Bank. The modifications will allow for the Phase IV construction of the roadway approaches, which will let in February. The construction is currently visible from the roadways on both sides of the River.
Phase III: Main Bridge Widening
Contractor has mobilized equipment and materials. Currently a safety monitoring system of digital stress gauges is being installed on and near the bridge.
Current traffic impacts:
One lane in each direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lane closures are subject to change based on weather, wind and site conditions. Alternate routes are the Hale Boggs Bridge and Crescent City Connection. Note: construction work on the Hale Boggs Bridge may not make it the best alternate route. For Hale Boggs Bridge lane closures, visit www.511la.org/.
