The Florida Avenue Bridge Project scope is currently being re-evaluated. Please note, the TIMED legislation mandates a “new Florida Avenue Bridge over the Industrial Canal from Orleans to St. Bernard Parish” is to be built and the LA DOTD is committed to fulfilling this legislative requirement.
At this time, there is not a schedule available for the construction of the Florida Avenue Bridge. The schedule is pending final design of the project which will resume following local agency and public coordination meetings.
The area surrounding the Florida Avenue Project was severely impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Local leaders are working on decisions regarding recovery and redevelopment of the New Orleans East area. The new Florida Avenue Bridge will be part of this recovery effort.
