Traffic Conditions |
May 24, 2011 - On Thursday, May 26, 2011, there will be an eastbound lane closure on the John James Audubon Bridge. This closure will extend to the center of the bridge and will be in effect from approximately 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please be cautious when driving through work zones.
May 4, 2011 - Due to the rising Mississippi River causing the closure of the New Roads/St. Francisville ferry, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will open the John James Audubon Bridge at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011. This emergency opening will accommodate traffic that will lose river-crossing access when the ferry closes. The ferry, which carried approximately 720 vehicles per day according to 2009-2010 DOTD statistics, is permanently closed with the opening of the Audubon Bridge.
November 15, 2010 - The new intersection of Major Parkway at LA 1 was opened today, Nov. 15. This area has been closed since August while crews removed the old intersection. The intersection relocation was necessary because LA 1 was shifted to the new approach roadways for the John James Audubon Bridge (JJA), and the old LA 1 roadway was removed.
The new section of Major Parkway will now connect with the currently under-construction new approaches to the JJA.
The Audubon Bridge project is expected to have minimal traffic impacts.
Motorists are advised to exhibit caution when traveling near the construction site as trucks and other heavy equipment may be entering and exiting construction areas.
Should the construction project impact traffic, a notice will be posted to this Web site and distributed in advance to all local media.
